Clara B. Lowder



Lowder, Clara B., 100, passed away January 3, 2018 in Tampa. She was born March 14, 1917 in Durham, N.C. to the late Bernice and Stella Bowen. She was a graduate of Boyden High School, Salisbury, NC, a Bachelor’s Degree from Mars Hill and Catawba College, in NC and a Master’s Degree from the University of Florida. She spent 41 years teaching home economics, science, and guidance counseling in NC and Hillsborough County Schools. Her hobbies included, cooking, bridge, and attending the University of Florida Gator football games.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband James A. Lowder; brother Merle F. Bowen and twin brothers Harold W. and Carroll W. Bowen. Clara is survived by her daughter Lee Lowder, Tampa, FL; brother-in-law, Jack Lowder of Jacksonville; nieces, Linda Huson (Bill), Kill Devil Hills, NC, Marsha Lyman (Ted), Williamsburg, VA; nephews, Steve Arey (Mary) and Johnny Safrit, Salisbury, NC and godsons, Shawn (Tati) and Brock Taylor and Jayson Houp (Sarah). Beloved friends Kit and Dave Taylor, Gary and Sherri Houp; Sherry and Rick Reber and dear friends she has known through the years. Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 13th from 4pm to 7pm at Blount and Curry Macdill, 605 S. Macdill Ave, Tampa. Visitation at Lyerly Funeral Home will be held Thursday, January 18, 2018 from 1:00 - 2:00 PM with service following burial will be in Rowan Memorial Park.
