Reed Arthur Parkhurst USMC Ret. of 67 N. Bethlehem Terrace Ln, Taylorsville, NC Received orders to Heaven 12/26/2017 at age 92 after a short illness. He passed quietly on a blanket of hundreds of prayers surrounded by his children.
Reed was born July 18th, 1925 To Oliver and Celia Reed Parkhurst. He was raised by his Aunt Francis Reed in Victor, NY.
Reed married Ruth Marie Guilford of Friendship NY, August 9th, 1950. They were married for 65 years when Ruth passed away. They had five children.
Reed joined and served in the Merchant Marines and the United States Marine Corps from 1944 through 1972 retiring at the rank of Gunnery Sergeant. Reed served in WW2, Korea, and Viet Nam.
Reed was an avid golfer and worked several post retirement years as golf club superintendent at several courses. Reed was also an outdoorsman and his final wish was to go smallmouth fishing. He was a standing member of the Friendship American Legion.
Reed was pre-deceased by his wife Ruth and a daughter, Linda Parkhurst Harrington. Surviving is son Glenn Parkhurst and daughters Donna and husband Wesley Chubb, Judy Fitzgerald, and Ruth Patterson. His family includes 13 Grandchildren, 24 Great Grandchildren, and 5 Great Great Grandchildren. Reed was also Grandfather and Great Grandfather to an extended family of 12 more whom he loved.
Visitation: 9:00 – 10:00 AM Friday, December 29, 2017 at Landmark Church, 1910 Mooresville Road, Salisbury, NC 28147
Service: 10:00 AM in church sanctuary with burial to follow at Salisbury National Cemetery, 501 Statesville Blvd, Salisbury, NC 28144. Military honors will be accorded by the Lyerly Volunteer Honor Guard. A Celebration of Life lunch will follow.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Semper Fi Fund or donor's choice.

Warm regards and respect to the family of Reed. I am forever grateful for meeting him many years ago as he had an enormous impact on my life then, which has stood the test of time. We know that there is one more Marine guarding those Pearly Gates heart and soul. Semper fidelis Gunny Parker. Thank you for your contribution to this great nation.
