Robert John Pollara



Robert John Pollara, 89 of Salisbury passed away on Saturday, November 18, 2017 at the Glenn A. Kiser Hospice House in Salisbury.

Born January 7, 1928 in Passaic, New Jersey, he was the son of John and Mary (Meszaros) Pollara. He was drafted in 1945 and served in the army as a corporal. For many years, he resided in Montague, New Jersey where he worked as a mason, a contractor, small business owner, and custodian at Montague Elementary School before retiring and moving to Salisbury with his wife Ellie. He enjoyed woodworking and clock making; he was also an excellent cook. An avid reader, Mr. Pollara could frequently be seen perusing the shelves at Rowan Public Library. He and his wife Ellie volunteered at Rowan County Meals-on-Wheels. A long-time member of Sacred Heart Church, Mr. Pollara was a resident of Salisbury for twenty-five years.

He is predeceased by wife Ellie (Meyer) Pollara, brothers Victor and George Pollara and granddaughter Jennifer Pollara. He is survived by his son Robert (Bob) Pollara and wife Donna; daughter Mary Stoddard and husband Raymond, three grandchildren: Brad, Jonathan and Truitt, three great grandchildren and six nieces and nephews.
Service: Graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM Monday November 27, 2017 at the Salisbury National Cemetery, 501 Statesville Blvd. Military Honors will be accorded by the Lyerly Volunteer Honor Guard.
