John William Hill



John William Hill, 84, of Salisbury went home to be with his Lord on November 10, 2017 at his home after a courageous fight with cancer.

John was born on February 20, 1933 in Salisbury to the late John Hill and Sadie Ludwig Hill. A 1952 graduate of Boyden High, he served in the U.S. Air Force, one year in the Korean War, and received two bronze stars, he retired from Rowan Cabarrus Community College after 25 years. John loved the Lord, he was a Deacon for 25 years, taught Sunday School for 28 years, sang in the choir for 34 years, and had 15 years perfect attendance. He was a member of Lakeview Baptist Church in Kannapolis. John loved going to Surf City to fish, doing things with his Grandchildren, wood working, and he especially liked making rocking horses and giving them to children. He was also an avid follower of UNC basketball.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers; Harry, Henry, James and one sister, Mary.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 58 years, Barbara Ervin Hill. Sons; Mike (Debbie) of Concord, Dale (Pam) of Faith, and Danny (Melissa) of Rockwell. Grandchildren; Matthew, Christopher, Nathan, Nicholas, and Isabella. Brother; Norman Hill of Salisbury and Sister; Connie Hill of Salisbury.

Service: Graveside rites will be held at Rowan Memorial Park at 11:00 AM on November 13, 2017 with the Rev. Jeff Cole officiating. Military honors will be accorded by the Lyerly Volunteer Honor Guard.
