James Howard “Jim” Betts, 75, of Salisbury passed away Friday, April 21, 2017 at the Glenn A. Kiser Hospice House with his family by his side. Jim was born on Long Island, NY, on October 21, 1941 to the late George Arthur Betts and the late Nancy Howard Betts. He graduated with a BS in Business from the University of South Carolina, where he met the love of his life, Patsy Hodges. They married, moved to Salisbury in 1968, and raised two daughters.
Jim owned Salisbury Carpet Service, providing floor covering to thousands of Rowan County residents for over 40 years. He worked extremely hard but made time for fun, and never met a stranger. Jim was a loyal member of Keller Memorial (Masonic) Lodge, Rowan (Oasis) Shrine Club, and Salisbury/Spencer Moose Lodge for many years. He was happiest when boating on High Rock Lake, camping, riding his motorcycle, or taking the “group bus” to NASCAR races. He was also terrific at billiards and loved scuba diving.
He truly lived life to its fullest.
Jim is survived by his brother, John Charles Betts (Patti) of Mooresville, NC; and sister, Nancy Betts Wood of Cheney, WA; his former wife for over 30 years, Patsy Hodges Blackley of Mint Hill, NC; their daughters, Nancy Betts Wilson (Jeff) and Kimberly Ann Smith (Brent); granddaughters, Amber Nicole Cain (Lloyd) and Brenna Ryan Smith; and great-grandson, Lloyd Franklin Cain, III .
A Celebration of Life officiated by Pastor Mike Robinson will be held at 2:00 pm, Tuesday, April 25, 2017, at Landmark Church, 1910 Mooresville Rd., Salisbury, 28147, followed by a reception.
Memorials may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children, 2900 Rocky Point Dr., Tampa, FL 33607 or Glenn A. Kiser Hospice House, 1229 Statesville Blvd., Salisbury, NC 28144.

Thank you for signing James Howard "Jim" Betts's Guestbook
I'm so sorry for the family. Jim had many many friends and loved his girls unconditionally. Salisbury lost a good honest hard working man. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Fly high Jim until we meet again.

Jim taught me the flooring trade when I was an early teen and so admired his knowledge and allowing me the opportunity to have worked with him. I wasproud to call him my friend. To his family, I'm sorry I didn't know about his passing in time to attend the service but I was able to visit him when he was a resident at carillon. He didn't talk but there was a glimpse of a smile. I'm glad I have that memory! (Piedmont Carpet/BrowningConstruction)
